Peacehaven Clinic

Our Approach to Profhilo

At our Peacehaven clinic, Dr Louise often recommends Profhilo for clients who have noticed that their skin no longer feels as hydrated, firm or resilient as it once did.

Profhilo tends to be most suitable when the main concerns are dryness, reduced elasticity and a general decline in skin quality. We like using it as a supportive treatment for maturing skin.

Is the change in the skin, or beneath it?

This is one of the first distinctions Dr Louise makes during your assessment.

If your facial shape still feels balanced but the skin covering it has become thinner, drier or less firm, Profhilo may be a good fit. Its aim is a gradual improvement in how the skin looks and feels.

If flatter cheeks, deeper folds, jowling or loss of facial support are contributing more significantly, improving skin quality alone may leave you disappointed. In that situation, Dr Louise will explain Profhilo’s limitations and suggests alternatives, like dermal fillers where lost facial support is more prominent, or microneedling for concerns such as uneven texture or scarring.

Considering the face and neck together

With more mature skin, Dr Louise also considers the relationship between the face and neck. Skin ageing rarely stops neatly at the jawline, and the neck can gradually become thinner, drier or more crepey.

Where both areas have changed, treating the face and neck together may create a more balanced overall improvement. This is not automatically necessary, however. The recommendation will depend on your skin, the areas that concern you and what can realistically be achieved.

“With mature skin, I begin by looking at what has actually changed. If the concern is mainly within the skin, Profhilo can be a very useful option. If the change is coming from deeper loss of support, I will be honest that improving hydration alone is unlikely to be the whole answer.”

Your Profhilo Appointment at Peacehaven

Your Profhilo treatment in Peacehaven is carried out personally by Dr Louise Pierre in a private, calm clinical setting.

Your appointment begins with a consultation. Dr Louise will ask what you have noticed about your skin, what you would like to improve and whether you have had any previous aesthetic treatments. She will also review your medical history to confirm that treatment is suitable for you.

There is time to ask questions and discuss any concerns you may have about the injections, recovery or expected result. Dr Louise will explain what will happen during the procedure and what you can realistically expect afterwards.

Our approach is conservative and honest. Profhilo is recommended when it has a clear role in your treatment plan, not simply because it is popular or because you have reached a particular age.

Questions About Profhilo From Peacehaven Clients

Dr Louise: “It can soften the appearance of some finer lines, particularly where dryness, thinning or crepiness are making them look more noticeable. By improving hydration and overall skin quality across the treated area, Profhilo can help the skin look plumper and smoother.

It is not a treatment that targets individual wrinkles, however. Deeper folds, expression lines and creases caused by loss of facial support are unlikely to improve significantly with Profhilo alone. I would assess what is causing the lines before explaining whether Profhilo is likely to make a worthwhile difference.”

Dr Louise: “It may help if your skin has become noticeably drier, thinner, less firm or more crepey. These changes can feel as though they have appeared very quickly during perimenopause, even when you have always looked after your skin.

Profhilo does not treat the hormonal cause of those changes, but it may help improve hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality. I would also assess whether volume loss or increasing laxity is contributing, as Profhilo cannot correct every change associated with this stage of life.”

Dr Louise: “Crepey skin and loose skin are not quite the same thing. If the neck has become finely wrinkled, dehydrated or mildly less firm, Profhilo may help improve its overall quality and make it look smoother.

If there is more significant loose skin, prominent vertical bands or fullness beneath the chin, Profhilo is unlikely to correct the main concern. I would want to look at your neck properly before recommending treatment because this is an area where it is particularly important not to overpromise.”
